Hats off to the Nelson & District Credit Union after its Community Investment Program presented the Nelson Police Department Restorative Justice with a $1500 grant.

The money has been used to honor the hard work and dedication of NPDRJ volunteers and to acknowledge community partners who support our program.

“We are grateful for the many ways this community shows its support,” said Anita Werner of the NPDRJ.

“Public engagement in community dialogue designed to address crime is a critical link to the success that NPDRJ has found over the past 3.5 years.”

Through restorative practices, NPDRJ volunteers have worked to empower victims and other stakeholders to play a vital role in generating understanding of the impacts of criminal behavior and to deciding outcomes designed to reasonably address the harm.

Volunteers have also supported offenders to take responsibility for their actions and to be accountable to those that were harmed. NPDRJ’s 23 volunteers have been committed to the work of sound justice, and to addressing the many needs created by crime.
