Mount Baker Wild of Cranbrook edged host Mount Sentinel in straight sets to capture the 2015 Kootenay Volleyball Classic Saturday.

The Wild defeated the Cats 25-17, 26-24 the High School Volleyball Tournament Championship match.

The win was the second for the East Kootenay school over Mount Sentinel.

Mount Sentinel opened the six-team tournament with a loss to the Wild.

“Girls had a great start on Friday against Mt Baker,” said Mount Sentinel coach Joe Moreira.

“Although the score didn’t show it, the girls played with considerable intensity and confidence. A great start to the tournament”

Mount Sentinel finished the round robin draw in third place behind Baker and Selkirk of Kimberley.

However, the Cats held off Selkirk Storm in the semi final to advance into the Championship.

“We had a chance to win in two (games) but we had to settle for 2-1 win with a 17-15 nail biter in the third game,” Moreira explained.

In the final, Mount Baker proved to be just too strong for the Wildcats.

Selkirk Storm finished third followed by Fernie, L.V. Rogers Bombers and Prince Charles Comets.
