More than 100 celebrate Robert Burns Night

Saturday (January 24), a day before the Scottish Bard’s 256th birthday, 100 people joined the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band to enjoy the poetry and songs of Robert Burns.
A traditional dinner of haggis, roast beef, neeps, and taddies was served, and has been served in Nelson for almost a century, and indeed around the world on every continent and in every country – on or around the anniversary of his birth.
The Immortal Memory was presented this year by Pat and John Dooley, a couple well known to Nelsonites.
The band led by Pipe Major Allan MacLeod performed as did the B. McJones Highland Dancers and fiddler Brie Hulbert.
The evening concluded with the joining of hands and the melding of voices in the singing of the Burns’ classic “Auld Lang Syne”.u
