RCMP arrested a 45-year-old Trail man for breaching his bail conditions of no contact with anyone under the age of 16 years. Information had been received that the man approached two male youths in the Glenmerry area. Through interviews of the two youths, their parents and the initial witness, it was conclusively determined that the man had not breached his conditions.

“What did happen was the youths had dropped a sum of money on the roadway and approached the man on their own to ask if he had found their money while he was walking,” said Acting Sgt. Darryl Orr. “He in fact had found their money and returned it to them and carried on his way without incident.”

As there was no offence committed the male was released without charge or process.

“The Trail and Greater District RCMP are aware there were numerous social media postings regarding this incident which were inaccurate, and wish to remind the public to refrain from rushing to conclusions prior to the true facts being known,” Orr added, explaining this created a real concern about possible vigilante action. “Let the police do the investigation, let us do our job rather than jumping to dangerous conclusions.”

The Trail & Greater District RCMP will continue to investigate any complaints regarding any person who is believed to pose a risk to our community and remain diligent in protecting the public safety.

Because no charges were sworn, The Champion and The Source will not be releasing the man’s name at this time.
