It was a stressful few days for residents in Nelson as police had their hands full contending with domestic dispute and mental health-related calls since Monday.

On Tuesday evening around 8:40 p.m. Nelson Police officers were called to Rosemont regarding a female chasing and threatening her husband.

“Upon arrival police arrested the 24-year-old female,” said Sgt. Steve Bank. “However, it was evident that she was suffering from an emotional breakdown and was subsequently transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital.”

She was treated by hospital staff and released. No criminal charges will result from the incident.

Just over 30 minutes later police were at the hospital again, bringing in a Fairview woman who had attempted suicide. She was treated by hospital staff but remains in hospital in “good condition.”

Three hours before that police received an abandoned 911 call. Tracing it to a residence in Uphill, police discovered a domestic dispute in progress.

“Since violence and substance abuse were not factors, police were able to mediate with the parties involved and made referrals to resources in the community that are likely to assist the family,” said Sgt. Bank.

On Wednesday, police were at the hospital again, after a 57-year-old woman was reported to be causing a disturbance and acting in an aggressive manner towards hospital staff.

The woman was also confrontational with police and was arrested and lodged in jail.

“After a period of time she was returned to the hospital by police and subsequently treated by staff for mental health issues,” said Sgt. Bank.

No criminal charges will result from the incident.

In the three-day stretch, Nelson Police officers handled 41 calls for service.
