McCarthy snipes first goal; Larose commits to Div 1 NCAA school

A few former Nelson Leafs are making news in hockey circles.
Highlighting the news department is Leaf sniper Colton McCarthy, who took a little longer but score his first goal in the Western Hockey League but managed the feat Thursday as Moose Jaw defeated the hometown Pats 4-3 in Regina.
McCarthy’s goal, coming on the power play, proved to be the game winner.
It was the the eighth game of the season for McCarthy, who left the Leafs in December to complete the season in the WHL with the Warriors.
Meanwhile, former Nelson Leafs netminder Matt Larose recently committed to the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers beginning with the 2013-14 NCAA Division I season.
The 20-year-old Nanaimo native played for the Leafs in 2009-10 season before joining the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL the following season.
Larose, 6’4″, 205-pounds, was dealt to Alberni the following season.
Larose is currently playing in the for the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League after being traded by th e Dauphin Kings of the Manitiba Junior Hockey League.
He currently has a 2.86 goals against average, two shutouts and a .927 save %, second best in the entire OJHL.
