Mary Poppins is a hit! Summer Youth Theatre wows the crowds at Capitol Theatre

Well, almost everyone knows the rest of the jingle.

But if people want to hear it live, then head on down to the Capitol Theatre to check out the 27th annual Summer Youth Theatre production, this year of Disney’s Mary Poppins, which began Thursday at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson.

Along with Chart, as Mary Poppins, and Barron, acting on stage as Bert, are 31 other members of the cast directed by Geoff Burns, and includes, Gideon Berry (George Banks), Sophie Bell (Winifred Banks), Emily Raynor (Jane Banks) and Felix Barron (Michael Banks).

Mary Poppins is a 1964 American musical fantasy film directed by Robert Stevenson and produced by Walt Disney, with songs written and composed by the Sherman Brothers.

Allison Girvan directs music while Lynette Lightfoot choreographs the breathtaking dance numbers.

The peppy musical runs from the Thursday to Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with an additional matinee Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Summer Youth Theatre has been a staple in Nelson for almost two decades. Students between the ages of 12 to 18 years, first audition, then practice their parts for more than three weeks before taking the stage to perform.
