Fans of the Penticton Vees hockey club got more than bargained for Friday night during the BC Hockey League home opener at the South Okanagan Events Centre when Mark Donnelly of Vancouver Canucks O Canada fame was in the house to sing the national anthem.

Only this time Donnelly, tuning up for the Canucks home opener next week against Edmonton, was on skates instead of his traditional shoes on the carpet to sing the anthem.

Unfortunately, the carpet took down the silver-tongued opera singer as his skates got caught during a jump over.

However, Donnelly didn’t miss a beat as he continued singing while trying to get back on the skates.

Penticton won the game 5-1 over Salmon Arm.
