LVR Bombers edge Owls to capture Hornets basketball tournament

Following a year of heartache due to the suspension of High School sports in BC as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, basketball is back.

And the L.V. Rogers Bombers took little time to shake off any rust, knocking off Kelowna Senior Secondary B Squad 72-68 in the final of the South Okanagan Hornets Boy’s Basketball Tournament Saturday in Oliver.

Sparked by Diego Caprara’s 10 points in the final quarter, the Bombers outscored the Owls 27-13 in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.

KSS led 15-13 after one quarter and 33-26 at recess before LVR closed the margin to 50-45 heading into the final quarter.

Caprara finished the game with 23 points while Tomasso Gasiani had 15 and Jake Marshall scored 10.

LVR opened the tournament with a 56-54 win over host South Okanagan Hornets.

The Bombers led 29-22 at half, before the Hornets offence caught fire, scoring 19 points in the third quarter to narrow LVR’s lead to 42-41.

Gasiani led LVR in scoring with 14 points while Caprara added nine and Calvin Wheeler and Orasuk each had seven points.

The Bombers advanced to the final by defeated Osoyoos Rattlers 61-52.

LVR rallied from a halftime deficit as Osoyoos jumped out to a 30-24 lead at the break.

Capara scored 13 points to lead the Bombers while Jake Marshall and Sam Orasuk each scored 11 points.
