Bomber basketball teams shared impressive results during High School Boy’s tournaments in Trail and Creston over the weekend.

The L.V. Rogers Senior Bombers rode the 30-point performance of Matti Erickson to knock off host J. Lloyd Crowe 68-54 in the final of the Hawks Basketball Tournament Saturday in the Silver City.

Meanwhile, in the East Kootenay, the Junior Bombers shook off some early-game rust to blast David Thompson Lakers of Invermere 78-30 at the Prince Charles Comets Junior Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday in Creston.

The Senior Bombers win was the first of the season over rival Crowe Hawks.

LVR, missing a few seniors due to prior commitments, turned to the Grade 11s to carry the squad to victory.

Also scoring for LVR was Johnny Michalchuk with 20 points.

LVR opened the four-team tournament with a 76-58 loss to Crowe.

Erickson and Michalchuk again paced the Bomber offence with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

LVR then stopped Nakusp 74-22 with Erickson leading the attack with 10 points. Jacob Bonikowsky and Theo Lincourt each added eight points.

The Bombers advanced to the final to replay Trail with a 59-45 win over David Thompson Lakers.

Michalchuk and Bonikowsky scored 13 and 10 points, respectively for LVR.

In Creston, LVR started strong, but could not maintain the pace against the high-powered Hawks losing 71-44 to Crowe in the opening game at the Prince Charles Tournament.

Griffin Phillips, named tournament MVP for the Bombers, and Mika Whitefield led the Junior Bombers attack, scoring eight and seven points, respectively.

Nathan Humphrey and Kailash Sanjivi each added six points.

LVR shot the ball well against the Hawks zone defence, converting eight three-pointers in the game.

The loss dropped LVR to the Consolation side of the tournament where the Bombers posted easy wins over Stanley Humphries of Castlegar and David Thompson.

Quinn Kilpatrick scored 12 points, all in the second half, to lead LVR past Stanley Humphries 67-27.

Josep Sola added six points for LVR while Humphrey and Sanjivi each scored five points.

LVR completed the Consolation Round with a lopsided win over David Thompson.

After a sluggish start, LVR outscored the Lakers 67-26 to complete the rout.

Humphrey, earning Game Star for LVR, led all scorers with 11 points as the point guard keyed the Bomber press, converting turnovers into easy baskets.

Jake Marshall added eight points while Kilpatrick had seven and Phillips and Sanjivi each had six.

Both Bomber teams are back in action Wednesday when J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks visit the Hangar.

Junior Bombers game tips off a 4 p.m. with the Senior Bombers contest following at 5:30 p.m.
