Letter: Supporting your corner grocery and convenience store

To The Editor:
I recently heard the difficulties of corner stores are experiencing in our city — some unable to keep doors open due to lack of business.
Is it cost of goods or availability of product or the lack of information to the surrounding blocks of the availability of service?
Rosemont grocery recently closed and I am concerned we may lose Burrells (in Uphill) next if people don’t become aware that these little grocers provide a useful supply of foods, candies, ice creams and a local opportunity for farm fresh homemade ready to cook meals — even local fresh cut flowers and annual and perennial garden plants.
How can we remind people to utilize these nice little stores?
I love not having to deal with down town Nelson. The traffic is so bad and the line ups can be horrendous. Or worse yet having to check myself through with no help. I enjoy seeing and meeting our community, a brief discussion can change a person’s whole day for the better.
