To The Editor:

The Honourable Marc Garneau, MP
Minister of Transport
House of Commons
Ottawa, ON K1A 0A6

Dear Minister Garneau:

Recently, Greyhound Canada, a private extra-provincial bus company, announced that they would no longer provide service to most of British Columbia.

For rural residents like those in my riding of Kootenay-Columbia, bus service is an essential means of transportation. Particularly for students and seniors, buses provide an affordable way of accessing medical services, schools, and for connecting with family and friends.

The loss of this service creates a tremendous gap that will isolate many people and create hardships for many more.

This is a crisis for rural Canada, and one that must be addressed as soon as possible. Please consider what the federal government can do to ensure affordable bus services or other affordable alternatives are in place to support our communities.

I look forward to working with you on this important and urgent matter.

Regards,

Wayne Stetski, Member of Parliament, Kootenay-Columbia
