The Beautiful Game kicked off its World Cup Championship Thursday in Brazil, and while most of the public was at work, a few interested fans were locked in front of the television cheering on their favourite team.

On opening day it was the Faraguna house in Nelson that was decked out in the Croatian colours as Guido and Boris Faraguna got together to support their homeland.

Unfortunately a questionable penalty call ruined the day for Croatia, losers 3-1 to host Brazil.

Action continues today with three games.

At 9 a.m. Mexico battles Cameroon; at noon defending champion Spain takes on Netherland before Chile and Australia meet at 3 p.m.

All games are on CBC Television.
