The free Compassion in Action Community Conference is coming up soon in Grand Forks on Friday June 24th and Saturday June 25th , from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
This free community event will include continental breakfast and a Doukhobor lunch each day.
All attendees must preregister for the event at the Compassion in Action link. Some spots remain open.
Everyone throughout the West Kootenays is welcome to attend this educational event.
Learn more from experts and local workers about the overdose crisis, the provincial and grassroots public health response, reducing stigma, and bringing compassion to public healthcare practice around substance use.
Leslie McBain, co-founder of the provincial advocacy group Moms Stop the Harm, will speak on Friday about her work advocating for services for people affected by the overdose crisis. There will also be a panel on stigma and other presentations on Friday.
On Saturday, Ashley Cole with the BC Centre on Substance Use will lead a dialogue session to gather feedback on local healthcare and mental healthcare needs in our communities.
Also, on Saturday, nurse practitioner Zak Matieschyn, a specialist in the field, will speak about current substance use treatment options and factors that can contribute to substance use.
