While a handful of teams are in Sherwood Park, Alta. this weekend playing for the Keystone Cup, the Western Canadian Jr. B Hockey Championship, the Nelson Leafs begin rustling the bushes in search of players to take the franchise to the 2012 title tournament.

This weekend at the NDCC Arena the team is holding a Prospect’s Tryout Camp.

Eighty players on four teams will be put through scrimmage games under the watchful eye of Nelson head coach and GM Chris Shaw.

The camp begins Friday with a pair of games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The round robin games continue Saturday with the consolation and final going Sunday morning.

The coaching staff will host exit interviews with prospective hopefuls that will attend the training camp of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League franchise in August.

The Leafs finished third in the Murdoch Division before losing in seven games to Beaver Valley Nitehawks in the first round of the KIJHL playoffs.

ICE CHIPS: Cyclone Taylor champion Peninsula Panthers are 1-0 after defeating Pilot Butte Storm 1-0 in opening round action Thursday at the Keystone Cup. The final in the six-team tournament is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. MDT.
