Leafs host Rockies; Millar talks with Wilkinson

Following a five-game road trip that took the squad to all corners of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, the Leafs are back home to face the surging Columbia Valley Rockies Friday at the NDCC Arena.

The Rockies are currently locked in a playoff fight with Creston for the final spot in the Eddie Mountain Division.

Columbia Valley, with a four-point advantage over the Thunder Cats, come to the Heritage riding a four-game winning streak.

While Nelson, 28-10-2, is tied for the top spot in the KIJHL and Murdoch Division with the Castlegar Rebels. The Leafs have struggled of late going 7-5-1 in its last 13 games.

Nelson travels to Spokane Sunday for an afternoon contest to complete weekend action.

Leaf program feature writer George Millar talks to Kyler Wilkinson

Prince George native Kyler Wilkinson came to the Leafs in a  trade earlier this season that saw forward Matti Jmaeff head back to his former team,  Creston Valley Thundercats.

J.J. Bietel is the usual partner on the blueline for Wilkinson.

He names Stuat Malgunas as the most important person in his hockey development while making it to the KIJHL has been is best hockey experience.
 
Kyler will be working soon.

In his free time, he likes to work out at the gym. His favourite food is steak. Sports Center is his TV choice and Step Brothers is his movie selection.

Will Farrell is his choice among actors. The Philadelphia rappers Group is his listening choice. The LA Kings are his NHL favourites, and defenceman Drew Doughty is his favourite player.
 
Wilkinson’s goals for this year include winning the championship.

Five years from now, he hopes to be playing hockey somewhere. He always juggles pucks as part of his pre-game preparation.
