After spending two plus weeks away from home, the Nelson Leafs are finally back at the friendly confines of the NDCC Arena to host the Grand Forks Border Bruins in a rare mid-week Kootenay International Junior Hockey League contest Wednesday.

The Leafs enter the contest fresh from a 4-1 victory Sunday over the defending KIJHL champion, Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

Nelson, 14-5-2-1-1, holds a slim one-point lead over the Castlegar Rebels in Murdoch standings after completing the five-game road trip at 2-3.

The trip would have been over .500 had the Leafs not been dinged two points for using an ineligible player in a November 7 game in Creston.

Nelson won the game 5-2 but had the win taken away by the KIJHL disciplinary committee.

The Leafs have won both meetings this season against the fifth-place Bruins — 8-6 in Grand Forks and 3-2 at the NDCC Arena.

Grand Forks, 7-13-1-0-1, trails Nelson in the standings by 15 points.

The Leafs play host Beaver Valley Saturday at 7 p.m. in the NDCC Arena to conclude the weekend.
