The best way for the Nelson Leafs to get into the festive season is to play out the unofficial first half of the season with three wins.

The three-game set begins Friday night in the Bavarian City when Nelson faces the Kimberley Dynamiters in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action.

Nelson won the only meeting between the two clubs October 30 at the NDCC Arena, but needed an overtime marker by Braeden Hikichi to pull out a 3-2 victory.

The game marks the first time former Leaf Adrian Moyls gets to play against his old teammates. The Nelson Minor Hockey product was traded last month to Kimberley in exchange for 6-foot, 184-pound Brennan Foreman.

In four games with the Nitros Moyls has registered two assists. Meanwhile Forman has six points in six games for Nelson.

Saturday Nelson travels to Beaver Valley to battle the Nitehawks. The Hawks will be out for a little revenge after Nelson scored a 6-2 victory last week in the Heritage City.

Sunday Nelson enters the Christmas break following an afternoon contest against Grand Forks Border Bruins. Puck drops at 1 p.m.

Riders lose another player

The Fernie Ghostriders have lost another player to the B.C. Hockey League.

Speedy forward Chase Golightly of Temecula, Calif., has signed with the Prince George Spruce Kings following a two-game tryout. The 18-year-old sniper has 22 points in 21 games for Fernie.

Earlier this season the Riders lost Bond and Brendan Hawryluk to the Power River Paper Kings. Powell River owns the top record in the BCHL.

Border Bruin sniper earns award

Yan Kalashnikov of Grand Forks and Stefan Jensen of Osoyoos earned KIJHL player-of-the-month awards for the Kootenay and Okanagan/Shuswap Conferences, respectively.

Coyotes to KIJHL

Osoyoos Coyotes hold down top spot in the KIJHL with a 26-2-1-4 record. Defending KIJHL champion Revelstoke Grizzlies are next with 52 points, seven behind Osoyoos. Fernie Ghostriders are third with 49 points.

Nelson Leafs sit seventh overall with 32 points.
