Late game heroics power Germany to 2014 World Cup title

Sunday, the Main Street Diner was a packed house as local roundball fans watched Germany steal the 2014 World Cup title with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro.
It was the first major trophy in 18 years for Germany and the fourth World title, which matches Italy and is second only to Brazil, who have five World Cups.
For the past month, the 600 Block of Baker Street restaurant has been the happening place as soccer fans watch the world on the big screen televisions outside on the patio battle it out for soccer supremacy.
Sunday, local soccer fans were not disappointed as super-sub Mario Gotze chested down Andre Schurrle’s cross in the 113th minute and volleyed home to cap a historic victory for the jubilant Germans.
Argentina were preparing for a penalty shootout in the Maracana, but in the 113th minute Gotze.
Now that Germany is celebrating, the rest of the soccer universe is suffering withdrawal as fans wait four years for the 2018 tournament in Russia.
On the bright side, Canada is hosting the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup with games in Vancouver.
And there’s the 2016 Euro Championships hosted by France.
No doubt both tournaments will have fans enjoying the action on the patio at Main Street Diner.
