Kootenay Storytelling Festival bigger and better than ever

It’s a weekend of stories.
And it all begins Friday with the All-Star Opening Night Concert.
The Kootenay Storytelling Festival presents a weekend of storytelling that will take you from the roots to the stars.
Beginning in Procter in 1999, the Kootenay Storytelling Festival moved into Nelson in 2012, bridging the transition with one day in each community.
However, 2013 promises to be bigger and better than any festivals of the past as it grows towards an event of national recognition while honouring its roots in the community.
The Festival opens with a concert featuring multiple award-winning writer, broadcaster, and cultural entrepreneur, Jowi Taylor and his internationally acclaimed project Six String Nation.
Also on tap Friday is the acoustic trio of master musicians Paul Landsberg, Doug Stephenson, and Don Macdonald, Trio Voyage joined by Allison Girvan and Laura Landsberg.
As a special treat, the evening also features Allison Girvanʼs choir Lalin. Composed of the older members of Corazon, Lalin awes listeners with their close harmonies and complex arrangements.
Saturday the real storytelling begins as story tellers Anne Glover, Kung Jaadee, Shoshana Litman, Jaymie Matthews, Magpie Ulysses and logger turned politician, Conrad “Corky” Evans take the stages.
Also on board telling their own tales are Richard Rowberry and Barry Gray, who has told stories since the start of the festival.
Venues include The Capitol Theatre, Expressions, and The Legion. Tickets for Opening Night Concert are $20 Regular, $12 Students Festival passes are $20 for one day or $35 for two while individual shows: $8 Adults/ $5 Children (under 12).
