Kootenay looks for first win of season against Rockets

The Kootenay Ice will be looking for win number one of the season when the club plays host to the high-flying Okanagan Rockets Saturday and Sunday in B.C. Hockey Major Midget League action at the NDCC Arena.

The Ice enters the contest without a win after opening the season on the road with a pair of losses last weekend in Nanaimo.

Kootenay dropped a 3-2 loss Saturday before losing 5-2 Sunday to the North Island Silvertips.

Kootenay held a 2-1 lead in the latter stages of game one before the Silvertips struck for two goals in a span of two minutes to steal the win. Taylor Grobowski scored the winner.

Luke Bertolucci of Trail and Quinn Klimchuk of Castlegar replied for the Ice.
Jarrod Schamerhorn of Kelowna was in goal for Kootenay.

In game two North Island scored three third period goals to outlast the Ice.
Brendan Taylor and Dane Feeney each scored twice for North Island.

Jacob Boyczuk of Trail and Dryden Hunt of Nelson scored for Kootenay. Cody Boeckman of Nelson was in goal for Kootenay.

The Ice returns to action Saturday at 6 p.m. against Okanagan. Sunday’s game is set for 10:30 a.m.

OVERTIME: The Kootenay Wildcats travel to Prince George to play the Cougars as the B.C. Female AAA Hockey League opens the 2010-11 campaign. The Cats play Saturday and Sunday before returning to Nelson.
