Kimberley doubles Leafs 4-2, Green & White win streak ends at six

Kimberley Dynamiters outscored the Nelson Leafs 4-1 in the final 40 minutes to double the Heritage City franchise 4-2 in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Saturday night in the Bavarian City.

Matt Davies, Nolan Kurylo and Lucas Purdy scored in the second period before Franco Colapaolo converted a powerplay marker in the third to lead the Eddie Mountain squad to the victory.

Former Nitro Sawyer Hunt gave the Leafs a 1-0 lead after one period.

Logan Wullum also scored for Nelson, which saw its winning streak end at six games.

Kimberley, leading the season series against Nelson 2-0 after posting a 2-1 win in October, now has won six straight games.

Cody Campbell stopped 31 of 33 shots to register the victory in goal for Kimberley.

Netminder Billy Gorn, taking the loss for Nelson, saw his four-game unbeaten streak end.

Kimberley outshot the Leafs 35-33 in the game.

The Nitros stormed back on the shot clock, out shooting the Leafs 21-2 in the third period after Nelson fired 31 shots at the Kimberley net through 40 minutes but was only able to muster two goals.

The Leafs enter the Christmas break with a 6-1 record in the last seven games.

Next up for the Leafs is a game December 30 in Grand Forks against the Bruins.

Nelson returns home Saturday, December 31 to host the Beaver Valley Nitehawks at 2 p.m. in the annual New Year’s Eve game.
