KIJHL announces more games postponed

The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League has decided to postpone its 2020-21 season until the New Year.
In a statement sent out by the league Friday, the KIJHL said the decision comes after the recent Provincial Health Orders, first posted on November 19th as well as additional restrictions put in place on December 3rd.
“In light of ongoing provincial restrictions limiting game play, team practices and participation of players over the age of 18, the KIJHL has announced a postponement of all regular season games scheduled through December 31st,” the KIJHL said.
“KIJHL teams may continue to conduct on-ice activities that abide by the Provincial Health Order until our holiday break begins on Dec. 19.”
The KIJHL said an announcement regarding a start date for the continuation of regular season schedule in the New Year, and guidance for a safe return by KIJHL players to their team communities, will be made once further information is available from the Province of British Columbia and the Provincial Health Officer.
“The KIJHL appreciates the patience being shown by all league stakeholders, including our fans, sponsors, volunteers and facility partners, during a difficult and uncertain time,” the KIJHL said.
“We are particularly grateful to the players, team staff and billet families who have worked diligently over the past three months to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all participants.”
Coronavirus COVID-19 has cast a cloak of confusion over all sports, including the KIJHL, as public health officials look to get a handle on the pandemic from spreading.
The KIJHL was able to complete a few games of the current season before BC Public Health instituted a travel ban from community to community.
The KIJHL decided to follow along with the Public Health Order by postponing games November 21.
“We look forward to returning to competitive play in January, and we will provide additional updates as soon as possible,” the KIJHL statement said.
