Jack & The Beanstalk Pantomime packs in crowds at Capitol Theatre

Jack & The Beanstalk came to life in the 29th annual Pantomime at the Capitol Theatre Thursday at the Capitol Theatre in Nelson.
The annual Pantomime experienced began in 1987 after the Capitol re-opened and remains the theatre’s biggest volunteer project to support the community space.
After almost three decades, 50-80 volunteers joined together for 2016 edition.
Pantomime 2016 began in September with more than 100 locals coming out for auditions under the guidance of co-directors Pat Henman and Karen Agnew.
Rehearsing twice a week, the 50 actors dances, acted, sang and laughed their way through the crazy script, musical scores and choreography.
This year, Olivia Bogaard was welcomed as assistant director as part of mentoring the next generations of local theatre technicians. The Pantomime also welcomed new music director Tyler James and choreographer Lindsay Clague as well as illustrator Murray Kimber.
Headline the show on stage is Heather Gingras as Edena; Kozmo Sammartino as Stinkyball; Vaughn Preninger and Gillian Wiley as Jack Trots and Princess Balaanca; Denis Senecal as King Bertram Trumpalot; Kyran Cunningham as Dame Trots; Todd Solarik as Simple Simon and Simon Beresford as Giant Blunderbore.
A mainstay of local theatre, the panto is also an important fundraiser for the Capitol.
Jack and the Beanstalk run December 1, 2, and 3 at 7:30pm, with matinees December 3 and 4 at 2pm.
