Injury to LVR player forces stoppage of Bomber-Wildcats contest

The L.V. Rogers Bombers and Mount Sentinel Wildcats settled for the unthinkable draw and a tie for third spot at the Cats High School Boy’s Basketball Tournament Saturday in South Slocan.
The game was called with 1:07 remaining in the first quarter when the contest was halted due to an injured LVR player.
The score was 15-13 in favour of the Bombers at the time of the injury to Bomber power forward Vinnie Watson, who dislocated his knee cap after losing his balance and tumbling to the floor.
Watson, who did not start, had just come into the contest and keyed the Bombers early lead.
Watson, who had been recently cleared to return to playing basketball, had not played a game since the same injury happened back in March during the BC High School AAA Boy’s Championships in Langley.
Watson, comforted by Bomber coaching staff, remained on the court for almost an hour waiting for Emergency Health Services before being taken to hospital.
Coaches from the teams have rescheduled the game to be played at a later date.
LVR, which lost two players to ankle injuries during the first round of action Friday, opened the tournament by edging Stanley Humphries Rockers.
The Bombers fought off a late charge by the Rockers to edge the Sunflower City squad on hot shooting by Eamon Studer and Brock and Dyllan Dixon.
LVR then lost a heartbreaker to Selkirk Storm of Kimberley in overtime.
Mount Sentinel opened with a win before losing Saturday to Prince Charles Comets of Creston.
The Storm rallied from a large second-half deficit to edge Prince Charles in the Championship Contest to capture top prize in the tournament.
