Hunt sparks Leafs to OT victory over Border Bruins

Sawyer Hunt scored at the 3:30 mark of the second overtime to lift the Nelson Leafs to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Grand Forks Border Bruins in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday night at the Jack Goddard Memorial Arena in the Boundary City.
Hunt’s goal, an unassisted marker, came after Nelson forced overtime in the third period when Jack Karran scored this fourth goal in the past two games to tie the game at 2-2.
Rilee Poffenroth gave Grand Forks a 1-0 lead after one period.
The Bruins maintained the one-goal advantage after the teams exchanged second-period goals — Ryan Cooper for Nelson on the power play and Poffenroth with his second of the game.
Poffenroth’s goal came despite the home side being outshot 23-6 by the Leafs.
Nelson, continuing its shots advantage in the third 13-4, tied the game when Karran combined with David Sanchez and Zach Morey to beat Knute Loe in the Grand Forks nets.
Loe, earning the Grand Forks Game Star honours, finished the game facing 58 shots.
Josh Williams faced 25 shot to register his fourth win of the season.
The win lifts Nelson into a tie for first place in the Murdoch Division with Grand Forks.
Nelson has won three straight games and in unbeaten in five game to begin the KIJHL season.
The Leafs return home to face Creston Valley Thunder Cats Saturday while the Bruins travel to Fruitvale to meet the defending KIJHL Champion Nitehawks.
