Coaches from more than 150 colleges and universities across Canada and the United States were in Vancouver recently scouting some of the top high school female soccer players during a Showcase Soccer Tournament.

One of the players on the pitch was Nelson’s Hanna Quinn of the Whitecaps Academy, who played goal for the squad from the Saskatoon Academy.

“This was really a great opportunity for Hanna to get scouted to fulfill her dream of playing college soccer,” said Brett Adams of the Whitecaps Academy.

“As Hanna’s coach I am extremely proud of her achievements that’s why I put her up for this experience.”

Quinn earned provincial recognition after backstopping Nelson to a pair of provincial championships in 2016 — the Provincial B U16 Girl’s crown as a member of the Nelson Youth Soccer Team and AA High School Girl’s Title  while playing for the L.V. Rogers Bombers.

So it seemed right for the coaching staff to find a spot for the Nelson Youth Soccer star at the Showcase Tournament.

And the LVR Grade 11 student did not disappoint, playing very well in all three games for Team Saskatoon.

“It was a great experience,” said Quinn said, paying a huge thank you to the Whitecaps Academy, especially Brett Adams and goalie coach Sam Heap for providing such great opportunities for our local kids.

Since arriving in the Kootenays, the Whitecaps we have had 11 players graduate from the program to play college soccer.

“If players have any aspirations of playing at the next level the Whitecaps will help them get there,” Adams said.

Quinn has set goals to be accepted into Med School after high school graduation.

However, now the Bomber athlete is back on the field to lead the Bombers as LVR defends its BC High School AA Girl’s Soccer title.

LVR is back on the road this weekend attending a high school tournament in Victoria, hosted by the University of Victoria.

All roads from this season lead to the Heritage City where LVR plays host to the BC High School AA Girl’s Soccer Championships June 1-3 at Lakeside Pitch.
