The two-horse race to the leadership of the BC NDP party is over before it started.

MLA Mike Farnworth confirmed rumours he was bowing out Tuesday in Victoria, leaving MLA John Horgan as the only remaining candidate and the next leader of the BC NDP opposition party.

Official opposition and current NDP leader Adrian Dix is stepping down to allow the party to select a new head of the party.

The decision by Dix came after the NDP’s surprise loss to the Liberals during the 2013 Provincial Election.

Horgan, who had to be persuaded to run for the leadership after no one decided to enter the race is expected to be acclaimed the new leader during the NDP leadership convention in the fall.
