Homelessness Action Week in Nelson began Monday in Nelson.

The focus of the week is Opening Doors to Affordable Housing.

The week kicked off with a Thanksgiving Dinner at Our Daily Bread Monday.

Tuesday, in the board room of the Nelson and District Credit Union at 7 p.m. is a session called Calling all Landlords and Potential Landlords.

Kristi Rivait, Co-Executive Director of Ready to Rent BC is the guest speaker.

Rivait will touch on creating successful tenancies as well as available information and support to renting in BC.

Wednesday, is a noon presentation at the Hume Hotel regarding Homelessness in BC.

Guest speakers Nick Falvo and Dara Sutton will lead the discussion regarding facts, context and initiatives with better understanding comes possibilities and solutions.

Falvo is a PhD alumnus of Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration in Ottawa.

Space is limited. Lunch is by donation.

Later Wednesday, at 7 p.m., is the Affordable Housing — A Community Forum at the Nelson United Church.

Guest panelists include City builder/developer, non-profit housing provider; Ready to Rent BC, Rent to Buy facilitator as well as a representative of Selkirk College.

Friday, at the Salvation Army on Vernon Street, there is a community Open House and Light Lunch.

The week is organized by the Nelson Committee on Homelessness. Local realtor Chuck Bennett is the honorary Chair.
