Reece Hunt of Nelson has boldly gone where few other interior players are found after the Kootenay Wild star was selected to the 2017 Female Midget AAA All-Star Team.

“On behalf of BC Hockey, I am excited to announce that you have been named to the 2016-2017 Female Midget AAA (FMAAA) All Star Team,” Chief Executive Officer for BC Hockey, Barry Petrachenko said in a letter sent to Hunt.

“Your hard work and determination with the Kootenay Wild this season has made you an excellent choice for this award.”

The selection is just the latest piece of great news for the Nelson Minor Hockey grad.

Hunt started the season as a member of Team BC’s bronze medal squad at the at the National Women’s U18 Championship in Regina.

The win tied the best-ever finish at the national tournament for the Team BC squad.

In March, the Grade 10 student, part of the Hockey Academy in Trail, accepted a full-ride scholarship to NCAA Division I Bemidji State University in Minnesota beginning in 2019-20.

Joining Hunt on the All-Star team is Campbell River goalie Jaydin Spooner of the Vancouver Island Seals; defencemen Maryna Macdonald of Port Alberni and Vancouver’s Stephanie Wallace of the Seals and Greater Vancouver Comets, respectively; Vernon’s Jeanna Fletcher of Thompson-Okanagan Lakers and Surrey’s Jenn Gardiner of Greater Vancouver.
