Hawks, Leafs play to 2-2 tie

No need to find a winner . . . it’s preseason hockey.

The coaching staffs of the Nelson Leafs and Beaver Valley Nitehawks saw everything they wanted during a pair of exhibition tilts — the final game ending in a 2-2 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League tie Wednesday night at the Hawks’ Nest in Fruitvale.

Beaver Valley edged the Leafs 5-4 Tuesday in Nelson.

The teams continue to fine to the roster as all KIJHL teams look to opening the season September 14.

Nelson host Castlegar Rebels while the Hawks travel to Grand Forks.

ICE CHIPS: He played all his minor hockey in Nelson, but for Coleton Dawson it’s time to move on as the Heritage City native inked a deal with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks. First game back playing in Nelson Dawson scored once and added a pair of assists Tuesday against the Leafs. . . .Nelson plays in Castlegar Sunday afternoon before returning to the NDCC Arena for the final exhibition contest against the same Rebels.
