L.V. Rogers Bombers took it on the chin during High School Field Hockey action Tuesday in Pass Creek, dropping a pair of games to rival J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks.

The Junior Bombers lost a tight battle 1-0 while the Seniors were doubled 4-2 by the Hawks.

“The Juniors were playing short and sick as key players were unable to make the game,” said coach Bruce Walgren.

“A great highlight in the game was Junior keeper Johanna Brochhagen making a save on a penalty stroke.”

Walgren said the Seniors played well but ran out of gas in the second half to the Hawks.

LVR struck first on a goal from Paige Miesner on a nice pass from Hanna Quinn.

Walgren said the high tempo by Crowe overwhelmed the Bombers as the Hawks struck for four straight before the Bombers could recover.

“Illness and injuries hurt the seniors as they played most of the game with eleven players,” Walgren said.

Walgren said a huge highlight was junior keeper Johanna Brochhagen making two saves on two JL Crowe penalty strokes.

He said the play of Brochhagen gave the Bombers some life and striker Hanna Quinn scored on a Bomber penalty stroke, but too late in the game to recover.

Next up for the Bombers is the West Kootenay semi – final against Stanley Humphries of Castlegar on Tuesday (October 24) at Pass Creek Park.
