Game one is in the books for the Beaver Valley Nitehawks at the Cyclone Taylor Cup in Creston.

And if Thursday’s score is any indication of what is to come, then the Hawks look to be the early favourites to win it all come Sunday.

Beaver Valley pounded Chris Smith in the Campbell River nets with 43 shots en route to a convincing 6-0 shellacking of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League Champs Thursday during the opening day of the Cyclone Taylor Cup in Creston.

Blake Sidoni and Nelson’s Nolan Percival gave Beaver Valley a 2-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes in a period the Hawks shelled Smith with 22 shots.

Tyler Hartman, captain Sam Swanson and McKoy Hauck increased the lead to 5-0 after two periods before Tyler Ghirardosi completed the scoring in the third.

Beaver Valley outshot the Storm 43-26 with second star Tallon Kramer earning the shutout.

Game two for the Hawks goes Friday in Creston against Aldergrove Kodiaks.

Host Creston Valley Thunder hosted Aldergrove in the late game Thursday.

The top two teams in the round robin draw meet for the Cyclone Taylor Championship Sunday evening in Creston.
