Organizers of the first annual Adventure Hotel and White LeBlanc Wealth Planners Christmas Toy Drive Breakfast said the event was a huge success, with more than 800 new toys and books delivered as well as $1,000 in cash donations made to help local kids this Christmas season.

The free breakfast fundraiser was hosted on November 26th and saw a crowd of more than 400 people from the community enjoy a free breakfast by donating a new toy, children’s book or cash donation.

“We were overwhelmed by the support,” said Leblanc partner Colin White.

“It’s so nice to see such an amazing community like Nelson come together to help support such a good cause.”

White said toy donations will go to the local Salvation Army to be included in their annual Christmas Hampers.

White said toys are delivered by Nelson Fire Department with families in need providing proof of the need for assistance.

He said the children’s books are being donated to the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy, and the cash donations will go to the Nelson Food Cupboard.

“A big portion of this event was around keeping things local,” White explained.

“With more than 2000 children living under the poverty line in our community, we wanted to make sure that they were looked after first.

“In working with these organizations, we feel that that is exactly what will happen,” said Rob Little of the Adventure Hotel.

Organizers would like to extend a big thank you to Nelson Fire Rescue and Police Departments, Mayor Deb Kozak, Glenn Wright, John Cooper, Kent Rode, Elissa Gumshel, Karl Nygren, Ainsley Mackie, Sadie Perlstrom, Robbi Leblanc, Amanda Walker, Kristina Little, Laura Munoz, Rhonda Comeau, Sawyer Perlstrom, and Myelle and Tyre Little, who donated hours of their time to make this a success.

Also, to the Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism who helped market the initiative.
