Granite Pointe hosts Zone one Ladies golf championships this weekend

More than 50 golfers from throughout the Kootenays will be at the Granite Pointe at Nelson course this weekend for the Zone One District Ladies Golf Championships.

The 36-hole tournament begins Saturday at 8 a.m. with registration.

The tourney begins at noon with a shotgun start.

“We currently have 51 entries from the East and West Kootenays,” championship chair, Mary-Ann Gaschnitz told The Nelson Daily.

Early favourites Leslie Weaver of Cranbrook and Cherie Baker of Creston — both previous winners.

Sunday the tourament begins at 8:30 a.m. with tee times.

Trophy presentations for women’s and senior amateur champs, net winner and top team.

There is also prizes for flight winners.

The women’s winner doesn’t have very far to travel to compete in the B.C. Women’s Golf Championships as Christina Lake hosts the provincial tourney July 3-6.

The senior ladies championship is June 18 – 20 at the Highland Pacific Golf Club in Victoria.
