Golden Terry Walgren Tournament for Nelson Selects

Nothing, even Mother Nature, could stop the Nelson Select juggernaut at the Terry Walgren Youth Soccer Tournament.

The host association captured a handful of medals during the weekend tourney that attracted teams from Creston, Fernie, Invermere, Cranbrook, Salmon Arm and Kelowna.

The U18 Selects had little trouble capturing gold in the U18 Boys division.

The Selects went through the tournament undefeated, overpowering association rivals Creston Blitz and Columbia Valley Titans.

Crosstown rivals, U17 Selects, held their older cousins to a scoreless tie.

The U17 Selects finished second in the division.

The U17 Girls needed a second kick at Salmon Arm, defeating the North Okanagan squad in the final en route to the gold medal in the U18 Girls Division.

Salmon Arm won the round robin with 27 points to Nelson’s 17. But the host squad won the war, defeating Salmon Arm in the rain to claim the gold medal.

In the U16 Girls Division, the U15 Selects lost only two points en route to a division high 28 to claim the gold medal.

The U15 Selects finished with 28 points to 22 to second place Columbia Valley.

The U14 Selects finished third with 21 points.

Kelowna edged out the Selects to claim the top prize in the U13 Selects in the U14 Division while Cranbrook Rovers won the U14 Boys Division over Kootenay South.

In the U14 Boys category, Kootenay South U13 Boys on the gold medal with
Nelson Select a close second.

All Nelson Selects teams are now preparing for the upcoming Kootenay Zone Playdowns in June.

Winners advance to represent the zones at the BC Soccer Provincial B Cup in July.
