Glacier gymnasts shine at Judges Cup

More than 150 gymnasts from throughout the Kootenay region took to the Heritage City Saturday to compete in the annual Glacier Gymnastics Club Glacier Judges Cup competition.

The event attracted 154 gymnasts from Castlegar, Trail, Invermere and Nelson competed in 15 Skill level categories.

“This was the first competition of the season for many of our gymnasts," said Glacier Head Coach, Sandra Long. “There were many personal best achievements and the coaching team was very pleased with the way the team performed.”

In the Performance Plus category Lillianna Mucha, Synnove Landsgard, Rylin Patterson, Charlotte Anderson, Anni-Mae Bruce, Teija Hartman, Aziel MacMillan and Keira Badry all took home an All Around Gold.

In the Zone 1 competitive category 7 of Glacier’s up and coming gymnasts received a Gold ranking All Around, Ember Mullin-Topf, Penelope Dawson, Anika Denkovski, Rebecka van Hellemond, Elsa Troutet, Maggie Kormany and Kaija Poitras.

Four of Glacier’s Junior Olympic Level 6 gymnasts claimed All Around Gold, Macy Loutit, Anouk Prud’homme, Jersey Skolka and Asia Szczepanski.

In the Junior Highschool Program, Ankaret Georget claimed All Around Gold in the Level 2 category.

Eleven of Glacier’s gymnast won special awards; Lillianna Mucha and Juliet Leschuk for Fastest Run on Vault. Jasmin White, Synnove Landsgard and Mary Trobak for Highest Dismount on Bars. Rylin Patterson and Danika Eberle for Best Artistry on Beam. Asia Szczepanski, Kallie Badry, Keira Badry and Farah van’t Land for Biggest Smile during their Floor routines.
