Ghostriders ride over Nelson Leafs 5-2
Fernie Ghostriders scored three straight second period goals to bounce the Nelson Leafs 5-2 in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday night in the East Kootenay City.
The Riders erased a 1-0 deficit on goals by Talyer Sincennes, Justin Peers and Ryan Kennedy in a span of three minutes to completely change the momentum of the contest.
Blair Andrews, scoring this third goal in two games, pulled Nelson to within a goal after two periods.
But Cole Keebler and Ryan Teslak scored insurance goals in the third period to complete the victory.
Sam Weber scored the other goal for Nelson, sporting a 3-3 record since new coach Mario DiBella took over the team from Dave McLellan.
Fernie dominated the Leafs for most of the contest, out shooting the visitors 57-32, including a 23-8 margin in the first period.
Patrick Ostermann took the loss in goal for the Leafs.
Newly signed Josh Williams was the back up goalie for Nelson.
Nelson completes a three-game-in-three night stint Saturday at home against defending champion Kimberley Dynamiters.
