Get ready for the Selkirk College Students Celebrate Year End Show at Spiritbar

Contemporary Music & Technology Program students are wrapping up their year at Selkirk College with a celebration. Students and instructors will perform together at Spiritbar on April 19 with all proceeds going to the Selkirk Student Food Bank.

Students are excited to celebrate and show off their hard work by giving people a memorable night filled with fantastic music. Student-based bands, each featuring a Selkirk College music program instructor, will bring funky and groovy sounds that the audience won’t soon forget.

“Giving our students real-life experiences in the creating of shows, especially a show of this calibre, is so important for the start of their careers,” says Selkirk College Instructor Laura Landsberg. “I can speak on behalf of all teachers when I say we are all very proud of the students and what they have accomplished and created.”

Kicking off the night will be Voiceworks. This delightful accapella group will intrigue audience members with their renditions of a mixture of pop and soul, traditional and contemporary along with world fusion. Voiceworks is comprised of instructor Laura Landsberg with students Bethany Petch, Lindsay Elzinga, Kiana Tingley, Sallie Salcedo, Thomas Caldwell, and Ilan Peimer.

Get back to your roots with The Stone Faces.They will feature roots rock from the 1970s to today’s current selections. The band consists of instructor Ralf Buschmeyer with students Shannon Sargent, Arusha Bruns, Lindsay Elzinga, Matt Flank, Madi Dixon and Jordan Lysenko.

Next up is Grooval Donposition.If you take a blank canvas and add a group of eager first years along with advanced composition majors – voila, you get a set of groove based tunes that are sure to get you on your feet. This group features instructor Don Macdonald on saxophone, Nella Banner on violin, Trevor Unruh and Logan Contino on guitar, Devon Gestrin on keys, Santo Joseph on bass, and Wasseem Hakhroo on drums.

Taking the stage next is the one and only Ensemble XIII – Pulse Edition.Rolling out a red carpet of ultra-contemporary pop, chill and dance music, these musicians are sure to get you onto the dance floor. This ensemble includes instructor Havelock John Tucker, Sean Cox, Aja Banks, Cole Senger, James Alexander, Nick Dicastri, Emilea Woodwolf, Diana Uglov, Ross Nordell, and Jobe Chen-Dokouroff.

Make sure you save your energy for The Motown Sound. This throwback ensemble will have the whole bar singing along with funky tunes from the good ol’ days featuring instructor Laura Landsberg, Erin L’heureux, Dari Marshall, Emily Slaney, Kamren Bermel, Blue Klaassen-Wright, Elias Popoff, Tyrone Glover and Jack Blaue.

Toast & Jam will keep the night pumping. This band is crunchy, sweet, and the best thing since plain sliced bread with tasty vocals by instructor Melody Diachun, Madeleine King, Jonah Miller and Alexanne Sobel, rocking guitars by A.J. Cunanan, Cole Dunham and Jose Enrique, funky bass by Thomas Caldwell, and powerful drum skills by Calvin Reid.

The Beautiful Dazegets to close the night. They want to inspire and fire you up with their all original music, raw vocals, and driving groove. Instructor Melody Diachun will be on background vocals and principal tambourine with Selina Heyligers-Hare and Gabriel Smith on vocals, guitar, and keys. Ryan Hommy and Johnny Dudar take vocals and guitar, Dean Bass on bass, and Blue Klaassen-Wright on drums and vocals.

Selkirk College’s Year End Celebration Show will take place at Spiritbar, Nelson on April 19. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. The show begins at 9:00 p.m. The cover charge is $10 or $5 for students with all proceeds will be going to Selkirk College Student Food Bank.
