L.V. Rogers finished with a 1-0-1 record at the Bomber Invitational High School Boy’s Soccer Tournament Friday at the Lakeside Pitch.

The Bombers opened with a 2-0 win over J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks of Trail before tying Mount Baker Wild of Cranbrook 2-2 in a wild finish later in the day.

The tie against the Wild was a frustrating way to conclude the tournament for the Bombers.

Leading 2-0 with the game winding down, but with the sun in the face of keeper Ryder Marzicola, Mount Baker was able to score twice in the dying minutes to secure the single point.

“With the sun falling low . . . (Mount Baker) made a shot which careened off two players up and over our keeper Ryder Marzicola,” Bomber coach Simon Liddell explained.

“Then with one minute to go another looping shot snuck through.”

David Grey and Jaden Dyck have given LVR the two-goal advantage.

Earlier in the day, the Bombers thumped Crowe Hawks in a physical encounter between the two West Kootenay rivals.

Jonah Thiele and Nigel Ziegler scored for the Bombers.

Marzicola was in goal for both games.

Mount Baker thumped Crowe 3-0 to capture the top prize in the three-team round robin tourney.

Liddell and Company now prepare for the Zones this weekend hosted in Trail.

The young Bombers are ranked second heading into the five-team tournament behind David Thompson Lakers of Invermere.

Crowe is third –ranked team in the tournament followed by Prince Charles of Creston and Golden Eagles.

Golden and Creston will play off this week to determine the final team in the tournament.

The winner represents the Kootenays at the BC High School AA Boy’s Soccer Championships next month in November.
