The Fraser Valley Phantom made it a Female Midget AAA Champion Three-peat by sweeping the Thompson/Okanagan Rockets in the best-of-three league final Saturday in Langley.

The Phantom will now advance to the 2014 Esso Cup, April 20 – 23 in Stoney Creek, Ontario.

Chelsea Wilson and Kaely McMurty scored singles in Fraser Valley’s 2-0 win Friday to open the series.

Saturday, Kirsten Martin scored the only goal as the Phantom pulled out the narrow 1-0 victory.

Valencia Yordanov and Rachel Fontinha each posted shutouts for Fraser Valley.

Fraser Valley defeated West Coast Avalanche in three games to advance to the final while the Rockets edged out Northern Cougars, also in three games.

The Avs got past Kootenay Wildcats in two games in quarter final playoff action. The Cats, 6-19-5, finished the regular season in fifth place in the six-team league.

The Female Midget AAA League was initiated in the 2007-2008 season in response to the membership’s desire to provide an opportunity for elite female hockey players to come together on zone teams to challenge other elite Female Midget teams.

Since its inception, the FMAAA league has had over 50 players go on to play at post-secondary institutions in Canada and the United States.
