No matter what you live in, there’s no denying it . . . winter is coming.

And there’s a great opportunity to learn about amazing energy-saving technology at the Annual Green Home and Energy Show set for Wednesday (October 5) at the Prestige Lakeside Resort.

Nelson Hydro’s EcoSave Program and the West Kootenay EcoSociety have combined to present “A Lighting Revolution” as the focus of this year’s show.

The trade show style event features green and sustainable options for building, renovating and transportation.

“The presentations were very popular last year, between electric vehicles and energy efficient buildings the show has something for everyone,” said Carmen Proctor, EcoSave Program Manager.

This year Proctor said the public can learn how long-lasting, energy-saving LED light bulbs can provide the same or better quality light in your home or business – and how you can save money and time.

There will also be information on solar, how heat pumps work, and “What’s Green about Round” by Mandala Homes.

“You can also receive sample LED lights and other special giveaways,” Proctor said.

“Locals have the opportunity to speak with the experts and enter to win prizes including $1,000 towards a Pedego Electric Bike, from Pedego Canada. “

Here are some of the exhibits at this year’s show:

  • Electric transportation, learn from those in the community who own and drive electric vehicles and bikes
  • PassiveHouse Designs by Lukas Armstrong, heat pumps, insulation, solar, LED lighting, and greening up your interior with designs by Social Room
  • Latest in technology, such as the Nest and other energy saving products by Martech SmartSolutions
  • Mandala Homes, presenting “A round home is greener home”
  • Energy evaluations, on-bill financing, and a district energy system for Nelson
  • Radon information and kits will be available, and much more

“In the past we have had around 300 people come out to learn about greener options. Each year we add something new, this year there is a feature presentation on LED lighting at 7:30 p.m.,” adds Carmen.

Proctor said the Regional District of Central Kootenay is also joining the show this year and will provide information on waste recovery initiatives and water conservation.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and presentations begin at 7 p.m. at the Prestige Lakeside Resort.
