The L.V. Rogers Bombers will play in the Consolation Round following a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to rival South Okanagan of Oliver Thursday at the BC High School AA  Girl’s Field Hockey Championships.

The loss was followed by a 3-0 setback to West View.

The flu bug forced the Bombers to play shorthanded as the Kootenay squad was missing up six players for Day two of the championships.

“This is a really hard year we just get one of the girls feeling a little better and the next one goes down at any one time today we have had up to six girls feeling sick and either unable to play or could play but not to their usual skill level,” said coach Bruce Walgren from Vancouver.

LVR opened the tournament Wednesday with identical 5-0 losses to Shawnigan Lake of Victoria and Crofton House of Vancouver.

Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in the province.

Against West View, LVR lost goal keeper Johanna Brochagen to a back injury.

“The team is playing very well considering what is happening this year,” Walgren explained.

“I am very proud of all of the girls for stepping up and playing in unfamiliar positions, “ he added. “We are just not getting any breaks this year.”

Bomber games stars included Erica Potkins, Ella Peloso and Skyla Short while AA Provincial team selection went to Isabel Curiston.

LVR concludes the tournament Friday.
