Firearm incident sees downtown neighbourhood evacuated

On Feb.9, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Castlegar RCMP responded to a disturbance in the 1000 block of 7th Avenue in Castlegar. As firearms were involved in the incident, the SED Containment Team and Emergency Response Team were activated and attended the scene.  The immediate area was evacuated as a public safety precaution.  After many hours of negotiations with the male who remained inside his residence, he was subsequently arrested without incident early this morning and remains in police custody.  There were no injuries. 

 

The 47-year-old Castlegar man is facing various charges which include Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Uttering Threats, and various firearms related offences.

 

The Castlegar RCMP and KBRD General Investigative Section continue to investigate the matter.
