Finalists set for 2018 Junior Dragons Den Championship

The finalists are set for Saturday’s Junior Dragons Den Championship at the Charles Bailey Theatre in Trail.

Junior Dragons from Castlegar, Nelson, Tumbler Ridge, Salmo and Selkirk College and Okanagan University College in Kelowna will be showcasing their business ventures in front of judges beginning at 6 p.m. in the Silver City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Junior Dragons Den is a Community Futures led business competition for entrepreneurs from Grades’ 7 to College/ Trades school level to create their own summer job/ business, or to expand an existing one.

These finalists qualified during Regional Competitions in Castlegar and Dawson Creek.

The competition’s Junior level is for students in Grades Eight to 10, and the Senior level includes Grades 11 and 12.

The post-secondary category is open to high school graduates from the Kootenay region attending colleges within or outside the region.

The finalists for Saturday include:

Junior category

  • Peterson Cryogenic Labs, Myles Peterson, Stanley Humphries Secondary
  • Selkirk Sea glass, Katherine Wall, St. Joseph’s School
  • Spruce It Up – Austin Lundgard, Tumbler Ridge Secondary
  • Welcome Home Décor- Rebekah Syme, Salmo Secondary

Senior category

  • Taking Back Neverland – Katelin Blunden and Keona Osbourne, Tumbler Ridge Secondary
  • Peer Music – Lily Knowles and Seth Merry, Tumbler Ridge Secondary

College/ University category

  • Academy Care Box – Vanessa Ford & Josh Skinner, Selkirk College
  • Virtual Realty of the Kootenays- Victoria Danylenko, Nicolas Bonacci, Austin Forry and Sheldon Farenholtz, Selkirk College
  • Wild Kootenay Honey – Cameron Olsen, Okanagan University College

Organizers have also giving away a chance to win a flight on Pacific Coastal by entering the Junior Dragons Den photo contest

Rules include:

  • submit your favorite picture from the Junior Dragons Den show to john@communityfutures.com by Sunday May 9th at midnight
  • like Junior Dragons Den Facebook page
  • all photos received will be uploaded to our Junior Dragons Den photo contest album for Monday May 10th at 9am. Vote for your favorite photo and share with your friends
  • voting remains open until Wednesday May 9th at midnight
  • winner will be announced online on the Junior Dragons Den Facebook page, Thursday May 10th at 9 a.m.
