It’s been quite a year for the Nelson Library.

The Library turned 80 and celebrated with an expansion to two floors, resulting in a spacious, comfortable facility to meet the needs of a growing community of library users.

“Support for the expansion has been outstanding,” said chief librarian June Stockdale. “We’ve almost reached our goal — we’re just about there.”

With $81,000 raised towards a goal of $100,000, the Library is inviting the community to come together for the final stretch.

“Libraries build stronger communities by supporting literacy and life-long learning,” said Library board chair Dianne Harke. “A gift to the library pays dividends to the entire community.”

Donations of all sizes are welcome, and are tax-deductible. Donors may choose to support the buy-a-shelf campaign, for example, and have their names or the name of a loved one inscribed on a shelf in the library.

Donations to the building fund before the end of 2010 will be recognized on the “Wall of Fame” just inside the Library entrance.

More information is available on the library website at www.nelsonlibrary.ca.

The Library gratefully acknowledges all donations to date.
