The L.V. Rogers Bombers managed a 3-1 record during the annual High School Girl’s Fieldhockey tournament Saturday in Oliver.

LVR defeated G.W. Graham of Chilliwack 1-0, host South Okanagan 2-0 and earned a 3-0 forfeit win Gleneagle of Coquitlam. The lone setback came in 4-1 loss to Sir Winston Churchhill of Vancouver.

Coach Bruce Walgren said Bombers played brilliantly and kept pace with GW Graham of Chilliwack and hung on for a 1 – 0 win.

Gioia Valk scored the lone goal on a nice return pass from Elle Schlegel during a short corner.

Against host Oliver, LVR took control right away, scoring midway through the first half on a beautiful reverse stick shot by Elle Schlegel.

Walgren said Oliver pressed but the Bomber defenders really held Oliver off the score sheet and when Oliver did get their chances Bomber keeper Johanna Brochagen was more than equal to the task. But in the second half the wheels wobbled on the Bomber band wagon with the loss off Central Midfielder Ella Peloso to a concussion after getting hit in the head with a Oliver stick.

Walgren said sith some small adjustments a great individual effort by Midfielder Jessica McLeod as she worked the ball in the Oliver penalty area beating three defenders and in the process of being tripped she managed to keep her stick on the ball hitting into the Oliver goal giving the Bombers a much deserved win.

Walgren said against Churchill, injuries took their toll on the Bombers reducing the team to no subs and several players playing injured.  The Bomber lone goal coming from Elle Schlegel during a short corner.

Bombers were then awarded a 3 – 0 win in the second and final game as Gleneagle from Surrey had to forfeit due to having to many injuries.

Prior to leaving for Oliver, the Bombers routed Stanley Humphries Rockers of Castlegar 7-1 Thursday.

Valk and Schlegel and Jessica McLeod each scored twice with 2 goals with Zoe Baxter adding a single. Walgren said the Bombers controlled much of the play and had a 4 – 0 lead at the end of the first half.

The only blemish coming late in the game a defensive error and a bad bounce allowed Stanley Humphries to ruin Johanna Brochagens bid for a shutout.

Bombers next game is a double header against arch rivals J.Lloyd Crowe of Trail on Tuesday at the Pass Creek field.
