RCMP said in a media release Friday that a woman died at the scene following a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on Highway 3A in Thrums.

RCMP said officers and Emergency Services responded to the fatal collision that happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. at Lookout Road, which is 16 kilometers west of South Slocan.

RCMP said it was determined that a northbound grey Honda Civic was rear-ended by a white Dodge pickup truck.

“As a result of the collision, the driver of the Honda, a woman in her 30’s, died at the scene,” RCMP said.

“The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation.”

Police said Highway 3A was closed for a period of time as West Kootenay Traffic Services (WKTS), the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the BC Coroners’ Service investigated the cause of the collision.

RCMP said impairment has been ruled out as a contributing factor to this crash.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage to contact WKTS in Nelson at 250-354-5180.

As the May long weekend approaches, police would like to remind drivers to slow down and leave sufficient distance between your vehicle and any vehicles ahead of you.

As well, please be safe and avoid non-essential travel.
