Erickson scores pair sparking Nelson U14 Selects to bronze medal

Matti Erickson netted a pair of goals to spark the Nelson Selects to a 3-1 victory over South Burnaby United in the bronze medal match at the Les Sinnott Memorial Provincial B Cup Soccer Tournament Sunday in Vernon.

The medal was the third of the BC Soccer Provincial B Cup season for the Heritage City association.

The Nelson Selects captured the bronze medal in the U16 Boy’s Division, also in Vernon, while the U18 Girls took home its third silver medal in three years Sunday in Surrey.

After opening the tournament with a 2-1 loss to eventual gold medal winner Wesburn Galaxy, the Selects went to work.

Erickson, scoring the lone goal in the loss to Wesburn, and Kieran Dehnel powered Nelson to a 2-1 victory Campbell River Strikers before the Selects clinched a berth in the bronze medal contest with a convincing 5-0 decision over host Vernon United.

Edan Soliid, Dylan Gyr, Dehnel with a pair and Erickson scored for the Selects in the dominating performance.

Keeper Mason Scott, who was solid between the pipes throughout the four-day tournament, registered the shutout for the Selects.

The team is coached by Kurt Dehnel and Eric Soliid and managed by Trevor Rimmer.

The team includes, Andreas Rentke, Dylan Gyr, Matteo Mushumanski, Saxon Bowick, Matti Erickson, Kieran Dehnal, Tiger Good, Mark Rimmer, Kyran Kennedym Edan Sollid, Seth Edney, Felix Barron, goalkeeper Mason Scott, Tom Bryson, Pikoi Krempl Tinglin, Adam Kuch and Callum Cutler.
