Following Thursday’s light show that saw lighting light up the sky throughout the region, Environment Canada is again issuing a Thunderstorm Watch for most of the southern interior of BC, including Boundary, Kootenay Lake, West Kootenay, East Kootenay and Arrow Lakes – Slocan Lakes areas.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain,” Environment Canada said.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to develop late this afternoon and are expected to continue through this evening.”

Environment Canada said lightning kills and injures Canadians every year and advises the public to remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
